Dimensional Validation Of A New Offshore Effluent Tank

Terrestrial 3D Laser Scanning

The Requirement

A fabricated storage tank, destined for an off-shore drilling rig had been fabricated locally by our client, a leading tank / pipework fabricator.

To ensure eventual site installation were to run smoothly without clash, their client requested the preparation of accurate point cloud data for the fabricated tank that could be utilised in their installation work-packs to ensure alignment with the connecting pipework.

The 3d laser survey was completed using an extending tripod that removed need for elevated work platforms, that in themselves, could have been a potential source of inaccuracy if movement were experienced. A scan to scan deviation better than 1.2mm deviations were achieved after post survey registration was completed.
extensibility
Many of our customers have leveraged the extensive range of deliverables derived from point cloud data. In fact, some have received up to 11 different deliverables from just a single four-day survey.

Lewis was a huge help in walking us through the process of meeting our client’s requirement. He quickly grasped the importance put in producing accurate point cloud data if the client were to complete this off-shore installation efficiently.
Lewis completed the 3D laser survey at our Basildon site, using his extending tripod to overcome the need for us to erect elevated work platforms. The survey was completed without disruption to our normal operations, underlining Lewis’ surveying skills achieved from working in similar process industries. The 3D survey was completed in hours with Lewis returning the post survey registered scan data in a few days, suitably impressing our client.
