TheRequirement
Our client required a comprehensive survey of two residential hi-rise buildings in London, focusing on the service systems running vertically through the buildings and the service rooms housing critical pumps and exchangers for heating and cooling. The goal was to laser scan these areas, create detailed 3D models in Autodesk Plant 3D, and produce .pcf files for both bellows, along with Caesar stress analysis.
We conducted the survey using a Trimble X7 Laser Scanner, optimized with low indoor settings and color capture disabled to increase efficiency. The survey involved navigating service corridors on either side of the buildings, systematically scanning each floor.
Registering the scan data posed a unique challenge due to the repetitive design of 40 identical floor levels, requiring careful procedures to maintain accuracy. The resulting data was modeled in Plant 3D, with color-coded services for clarity, and deliverables included ISOs and .pcf files to support the client's analysis needs.
SPEED
Time was a critical factor with limited access. We chose the Trimble X7 for its ability to efficiently track progress and streamline registration, ensuring the project stayed on schedule.
Completed the 3D laser survey of two large hi-rise buildings, registering 2,500 scans despite the complex layout, delivered the precise 3D process models and PCF files, enabling accurate stress analysis to be undertaken.
